SPACE AWAY#3
In the third edition of Space Away during Autumn 2025, dancers and choreographers Karin Bergman and Alice Martucci were artists in residence.
They both shared elements of what they had been working on during their time as ‘artists-in-house’ on the 15th of February 2026 in Danseatelier.

“I have made 24 dance phrases inspired by the score that Trisha Brown used for her dance performance “Locus” (1975). The dance phrases take place in an imaginary cube, with 3 levels and 25 spatial directions. With a continuous fall and in balance by extending body parts between different points in space, the dancer turns, curve and spiral around herself. I will gather the 24 dance phrases into a sequence and attempt to dance fast.“

“During this residency we have been inquiring into the tension between dancing and making sense. We have been discussing the idea of dance as sign and/or symbol and we have explored the relationship between dance fragments and words, observing how space gets shaped around them, listening to their rhythms and letting them resonate together.
In this context we have been lately focusing on lists as an approach and a practice by making lists of dances and words in different ways. We have been playing with associations, connections as well as gaps, pauses and line breaks. We have been getting inspired by each other’s stories, habits, intuitive turns and blind spots while letting the practice gather experiences that become a substratus for the group’s co-existing imagination. We have been asking ourselves how to let the dance give its own meaning resisting the desire to close into a circle what seems to be an infinite spiral.
